Bob Roth’s New River Groves opened for business in Davie, FL on a crisp sunny day in October of 1964. In the early days, “the Grove” — as longtime patrons know it — was a part of a thriving community of Florida citrus growers, packers and shippers based in western Broward County. New River Groves was one of the largest and better known citrus growers in South Florida, and area residents from as far away as Miami would visit us to “pick a peck” of fresh fruit right off the trees for only $1. Of course, tourists, snowbirds and visitors from outside of Florida were — and still are — our most enthusiastic customers. Many of these old friends of the Grove still visit us frequently while they are in town to pick up fresh oranges, grapefruits, and orange juice, Terry’s Homemade Key Lime Pie or join our fruit of the month club to receive fresh citrus shipped all season long.
